Cheesesteak Hash Ingredients

– 2 large potatoes, diced into small cubes
– 1 lb beef sirloin or ribeye steak, thinly sliced
– 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
– 1 onion, thinly sliced
– 3 cloves of garlic, minced
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
– 1 cup whole milk
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)


1. Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced potatoes and cook until golden brown and crispy. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent them from sticking to the pan. This process will take around 10-15 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the potatoes to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Set them aside.

2. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil and heat it over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced beef and season it with salt and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked to your desired level of doneness. This step usually takes around 5-7 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the beef to the plate with the potatoes.

3. Using the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add the bell pepper, onion, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are tender and slightly caramelized, approximately 5 minutes. Remove them from the skillet and set them aside with the beef and potatoes.

4. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour to create a roux. Cook for a minute while continuously whisking, and then slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid any lumps. Cook the sauce, whisking occasionally, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon. This will take around 5 minutes. Remove the saucepan from heat, and stir in the shredded provolone cheese until melted and smooth.

5. Preheat your broiler on high. Return the skillet with the potatoes, beef, and vegetables back to the stovetop, and pour the creamy provolone cheese sauce over it. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients and ensure everything is coated in the cheesy goodness. Allow the mixture to heat through for 2-3 minutes.

6. Transfer the skillet under the preheated broiler and let it cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese on top is golden and bubbly.

7. Remove the skillet from the broiler and let it cool slightly. Sprinkle the Cheesesteak Hash with fresh parsley for a burst of freshness and color.

Serve the Cheesesteak Hash as a hearty breakfast or a satisfying dinner alongside a crisp green salad or crusty bread. It’s a dish that effortlessly blends comfort with gourmet flair.
